Interview with J.L. Smith
Sunday, May 17, 2009
I’d like to introduce you to J.L. Smith who is the author of a new book, Reporting For Doodie. L.A. Parent Magazine said:
"Part self-help, part autobiography, this book is all about the power of positive thinking. It's also the account of how one suddenly-single grandmother with a great sense of humor came to find herself through caring for her grandson while his parents were deployed overseas by the U.S. Military. A heartwarming tale of love, devotion and inspiration from Long Beach "gramma" Judy L. Smith."
1.What do you do?
I am a self-published author. My first book entitled “Reporting For Doodie: One Grandmother’s Story of Commitment, Frustration and Unwavering Love is available now.
2.Tell us about your new book.
My book is a nonfiction account of how military deployment affects the caregivers of our military children here at home.
3.Why did you write it?
I was going through an unexpected divorce, facing the loss of my home and a major career change when my daughter and son-in-law were simultaneously deployed overseas. I had to revert back to being a single mom overnight. I’ve always wanted to write a book but never felt inspired enough by anything. One day my 2-year old grandson did something so funny I couldn’t believe it…it was my epiphany.
